Goodmorning dolls,

Happy Wednesday! I wanted to share one of my favorite outfits that was taken a few weeks back (when it was easy to wear a skirt without freezing to death!) Today, I wouldn’t even dare. Our temperatures freakishly dropped to around 24 degrees this week. Even at Christmas time, it wasn’t cold. Strange how that happens!

Anyways, I love this skirt from Francesca’s because I can transition it throughout every season effortlessly. If it’s chilly, I can throw a sweater on. If it’s warm, I can wear it with a light blouse and sandals. I absolutely love the color, too!

Summertime Sadness

Goodmorning dolls,

I’m feeling a little winter sadness right now considering our temperatures decided to drop by unbelievable amounts for the next week. Considering it doesn’t normally stay cold for very long in Louisiana, the heat is long overdue. While we will all complain about how hot it is come July (especially me considering I’ll be 8 months pregnant!), I just can’t stand the cold anymore.

And, it’s not just the cold. I can’t stand the dark, drab winter clothing either. I went shopping the other day for brighter, more vibrant clothing and could find literally nothing. I’m sick of black. I’m sick of burgundy. I’m sick, sick, sick of boots. Not booties, just full boots. And I don’t know when it hit me but it has me hoping, dreaming, and praying for warmer days (and a trip back to Hawaii wouldn’t hurt, either!)

So, there’s a few things I’m looking forward to when it comes to warmer temps.

pastel scarves, pastel everything

brighter nails without feeling ridiculous

white SUMMER dress

BIKINIS

shorts of all kinds

weekend beach visits with the hubby

strolls around New Orleans without freezing to death

Oh, and the most important..our sweet baby that comes in August.

Are any of you with me on this? Who’s patiently awaiting warmer weather?

For me, the past year has held many ups and, thankfully, not so many downs. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some really amazing designers and brands and look forward to what will come next. I attended the first annual SBS Brunch where I met some really amazing ladies. I was able to head up a fashion show for work. I was able to travel to Vegas for my first time. I’m already excited for 2014 considering it’s the year we welcome our first child. It’s the year I hope to open up more and settle less. I hope to take more risks and meet more amazing people. I hope you all have a blessed 2014 and I sincerely appreciate you all following along with me year after year.

Winter Coat Confessions

IMG_8933 IMG_8928 IMG_8938 IMG_8912 2Coat: Forever 21

With all of the moving we did over the past two years, I seemed to have lost every single nice coat I had. When my mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, I told her coats..and tons of them. She laughed when I told her I could literally own a coat in every color of the rainbow but, in all seriousness, I really could.

I believe winter coats take you from being the person you are to the person you want to be. I believe they take your outfit from drab to fab in about 5 seconds. Depending on where you’re going, you need to have the perfect coat. The one I’m wearing is literally $60 (PLUS 10% off & FREE shipping with code TXTYA5). Yes, the coat might be from Forever21 but who will ever know that? For all they know, you could be sporting a $5,000 coat! For the record, I’d never spend that much on a coat. I’ll also be honest and tell you I’m pretty shocked at the quality of it considering it’s from Forever21. The (faux) fur is super soft and the leather is, too! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

What’s your take?

PS: I was super moody in these photos and turns out I was about 5 weeks pregnant. Crazy, right?!

When it comes to layering, I haven’t always had the skill. I feel like layering is one of those skills you have to acquire over time, with tons of practice. When I first started layering, I felt like I was choking. Partly, because I was layering items that weren’t loose enough to be layered.

My advice is to wear items that are a little loose (unless they are the bottom garment) that way you don’t feel like you’re a little kid bundled up for school on a cold winter day and suffocating. For example, with my dress being a little more snug at the top, I decided to go for a plaid button-up that was a little loose in the arms and a faux fur vest that gave the outfit some texture. You definitely never want to layer items that are all extremely snug, it’ll have you feeling snug! And, you always want to layer varying colors and textures (ie: plaid, faur fur, denim, lace).

Stay warm and everyone have a safe holiday!

Even the smallest of home decor (ie votives) can still make the best gift. Simply make a gift basket with tons of different colored votives, bath salts, their favorite lipstick, and voila: the perfect (and easiest!) gift.

If the girl in your life loves the kitchen, then this monogrammed cheese board is the perfect gift (and under $25!) If she loves spending her hours soaking in the tub (like myself), then Crabtree & Evelyn is the way to her heart. If she’s getting married, then this his and hers cocktail glass set is UNBEATABLE!!

Christmas Party Attire with Banana Republic

Top/Skirt/Coat: Banana Republic | Necklaces: InPink {c/o} & Forever21 {similar} | Earrings: InPink {c/o} | Shoes: old

Goodmorning,

Today’s post is all about my favorite time of the year to get all dolled up: Christmas. With Christmas parties in full swing, I can’t help but feel the festive spirit and I just can’t quit piling on the necklaces and other baubles, too.

When it comes to finding the perfect outfit for holiday parties, it’s all about the glitz and glam. I always hear women say they absolutely have to wear red and green and that could not be farther from the truth. Granted, red and green can look really amazing in certain looks but it’s certainly a rule of thumb that needs to be forgotten. So, let’s all try something new this year.

Instead of a Christmas sweater, opt for a chic sequin number like this sequin collar blouse from ASOS (on super sale!) or this fab sequin blouse. Instead of a drab dress you’ve worn one to many times, go for a sequin stunner like this V Neck Dress from HoneyPunch. My personal favorite are these sequin leggings from Ruche! And, if those aren’t perfect enough, I’ve added a few to my Shop with Kaitlin page where you can shop my favorites.

So, what will you be wearing for your upcoming holiday parties? And, stay tuned for Friday. I’ve got something extra special up my sleeve with Banana Republic! For a hint, head over to my Facebook page.
